Top Frequently Asked Questions for Jaco Beach to Montezuma Boat Taxi:

1. How long does the boat taxi take?

Answer: The crossing across the Gulf of Nicoya takes approximately 60 minutes. This is significantly faster than the 4-5 hour drive required to go around by land.

2. Where is the departure point in Jaco?

Answer: The boat departs from Playa Herradura, located just 10 minutes north of downtown Jaco. We provide ground transportation from your Jaco hotel to the launch site.

3. Is the boat taxi a “wet landing”?

Answer: Yes. In Montezuma, the boat pulls up directly to the beach. You should expect to wade through calf-deep water to get to the shore. We recommend wearing water shoes or sandals and shorts.

4. What is the luggage allowance?

Answer: Standard tickets include one large suitcase or backpack (up to 22kg/50lbs) and one small carry-on. Surfboards and oversized gear can be accommodated for a small additional fee (usually $10-$20)—please notify us in advance.

5. Will I see whales or dolphins?

Answer: While wildlife sightings aren’t guaranteed, the Gulf of Nicoya is a biological hotspot. It is very common to see dolphins year-round, and Humpback whales are frequently spotted during their migration seasons (July through October and January through March).

6. What happens if the weather is bad?

Answer: Safety is our priority. If the captain determines the sea conditions are too rough for a safe crossing, we will either reschedule your trip or provide a full refund. We monitor wind and swell charts daily.

7. Can I bring my pet?

Answer: Small pets are generally allowed but must be in a travel crate. Please contact us before booking to ensure space is available on your specific departure.

8. Is this service suitable for children?

Answer: Absolutely! Kids love the adventure and the chance to see dolphins. We provide life jackets for all sizes, including infants and children.
