For the serious blue-water angler, we offer FAD (Fish Aggregating Device) trips. These are long-range, multi-day expeditions to seamounts 80–120 miles offshore.
The “Marlin Magnet”: FADs attract massive numbers of Blue Marlin. During the peak “Green Season” (May–November), it is common to see 10–20 raises per day.
2026 Multi-Day Rates:
2 Nights / 1.5 Days: Starting at $5,000
3 Nights / 2 Days: Starting at $10,000
4 Nights / 3 Days: Starting at $15,000
Answer: Fishing is excellent year-round, but your “best” time depends on your target. Peak Billfish season (Sailfish and Marlin) is December through April. Yellowfin Tuna are most abundant from May to November. Dorado (Mahi-Mahi) peaks during the green season (Sept–Nov) when debris lines form near the coast.
Answer: Yes, a Costa Rican fishing license is required by law for everyone over 16. In 2026, the standard 8-day license costs $15. As your booking agency, Jaco360 can help you purchase these online via the INCOPESCA portal or at the marina dock on the morning of your trip.
Answer: Most standard sportfishers are licensed for up to 6 passengers. Larger luxury yachts can accommodate 8 to 12 people, though some boats charge a small fee (approx. $100) for each additional passenger beyond the base rate. For large corporate groups or bachelor parties, we can arrange a multi-boat “Mini-Tournament.”
Answer: While no one can “guarantee” nature, Los Sueños has one of the highest catch rates in the world. Our captains are local experts who use the latest radar and sonar technology. If the offshore action is slow, they often pivot to inshore reefs to ensure you get a bend in the rod. Booking through Jaco360 ensures you are with a top-tier crew vetted for their success rate.
Answer: Costa Rica follows a strict Catch and Release policy for all Billfish (Marlin and Sailfish) and Roosterfish to protect the population. However, for “table fish” like Tuna, Mahi-Mahi, and Snapper, the crew will fillet your catch for you. As your agency, we can recommend local “Hook & Cook” restaurants in Jaco that will prepare your fresh catch for dinner.
